Harpenden Museum is run by volunteers from the Harpenden & District Local History Society and is based inside the Eric Morecambe Centre in Rothamsted Park. It tells the story of Harpenden and the surrounding area through changing exhibitions, such as the growth of Harpenden from village to town between 1860 and 1914.
Opening times
- Tuesday: 11am to 3pm
- Thursday: 11am to 3pm
- Saturday: 10.30am to 3.30pm
The museum usually closes from Christmas week to New Year’s Day. Because it is staffed by volunteers, opening times can occasionally change at short notice; look for the “Museum Open” sign at the door of the Eric Morecambe Centre.
Groups, schools and researchers can arrange visits by appointment through the society. The society’s website, harpenden-history.org.uk, is also a treasure trove of articles on the town’s streets, shops and people.
