Harpenden Town Hall on Leyton Road is the office and meeting place of Harpenden Town Council. The complex joins the historic Park Hall to a modern building that opened in 1994.
History
Park Hall was built as the Harpenden British School and opened in 1850 on land donated by Sir John Lawes. When the school moved in 1897, the council bought the building and reopened it in 1899 as the town’s Public Hall. By the 1980s it had fallen into disrepair and faced demolition, but it was protected and, in the early 1990s, restored alongside a new building. The complex officially reopened on 8 October 1994, and the council moved in during August 1996.
