First performed in 1949, the Harpenden and Wheathampstead Gang Show is recognised as the longest continuously running Scout Gang Show in the world and is now rehearsing for its 77th Show.
For years, Gang Show has brought young people, volunteers, families and audiences together through music, dance and comedy, becoming a much-loved part of local Scouting and community life. Its history is full of determination and local support, including the famous 1974 performance when a severed electricity cable threatened the Show and parents lit the stage using car headlights outside Harpenden Public Halls.
Since 2022, the Show has taken place at the Eric Morecambe Centre in Harpenden, offering a larger auditorium while keeping the production close to its long-standing roots beside Harpenden Common.
Cast members come from across the District and spend months rehearsing together, with opportunities to audition for additional singing, dancing and speaking parts. Each year, the creative team combines much-loved Gang Show traditions with new themes, modern choreography and brand-new numbers
But Gang Show is about much more than a week on stage. It gives young people a place to belong, build confidence, develop performance skills, make friends beyond their own Group or Unit and become part of one team. For audiences, whether you have supported the Show for years or are joining us for the first time, a warm welcome awaits.
