The 1971 is a Bangladeshi and Indian restaurant and takeaway at 36 Station Road, a couple of minutes’ walk from Harpenden station. It took over from Cafe Jeera, and since the change it has become one of the highest-rated restaurants in Harpenden on Google, with more than 1,000 reviews.
The menu mixes Bangladeshi home-style cooking with Indian favourites, and dishes are presented with a bit of theatre. Reviewers praise the stylish dining room, the attentive staff and the poppadom dips. Takeaway and delivery are both available.
It opens every evening from 5.30pm. Booking is a good idea at weekends.
